Assume that rainfall and evaporation contain negligible concentrations of salt, and calculate the salt concentration in the flow out of the lake. c) During a drought, the rainfall decreases to 5 cm/yr and the stream flow into the lake decreases to 3 L/s. Calculate a new value of volumetric flow rate out of the lake and the time required for the concentration of salt in the lake to increase to 500 mg/L. Problem 5 - A. [ original ] During the "dry season" of the year, the flow rate in a river that serves as the major source of water for a small city is insufficient to meet the city's needs. The city wishes to build a dam to create a reservoir to store water during the "rainy season." Briefly discuss one possible adverse effect and one possible beneficial effect on the "natural" environment near the proposed reservoir.
