My Thoughts on the Study This article was eye-opening, not because I did not know the problem existed, but because I was, as the article describes, ignorant to the historical origins of the nickname. I feel that I have been slightly defrauded as an American sports lover. The issue has never directly affected me in anyway so, like most I turned a blind eye to the cause instead of understand the solution. The hidden messages and long forgotten meanings behind the racially motivated names really does do damage. The numbness of the society in embarrassing. Like the article believes, I do not feel that any change in today’s society would come from the kindness of the heart or because of some newfound light shed on the controversy of the Native American slander and racism.
