with it. The wrong treatment of children tends to affect the positive development. It has been proven that the development of a child is a process which requires a lot of care and motives to ensure that it is a success. 3. The various types of mistreatment against children include physical abuse, neglect, emotional abuse, and sexual abuse. These maltreatment is associated with emotional problems, relations with peers and teachers, depression, problems of establishing relationships between grownups and peers and also high risk of developing negative behaviors (Erikson’s 3 rd Stage: Initiative versus Guilt n.d, slide 10). These effects of abuse sabotage the proper development of the child which may render the child becoming an adult who is struggling with social related problems such as socialization. 4. Positive development is associated with dependence, maturity, appropriate behavior, self- control, and cheerfulness. In most cases, parents who mistreat their children are usually under the influence of drugs or have had a past which makes them act violently towards their children.
