Claudio then goes to talk to Benedick where he confesses his sorrow while Benedick is still insulted with Beatrice’s words when they danced. Claudio leaves and Benedick goes to talk to Don Pedro about his hurt heart while he tries to find Claudio. Beatrice finds Claduio and brings him to Benedick and Don Pedro. Benedick decides to leave as his heart has been shattered. Leonato confirms that Claudio and Hero will be married, but it will be the following week. Don Pedro tells Beatrice she will find a fine man one day, but she denies anyone ever loving her; therefore, Don Pedro offers himself, yet she denies him as he has too much divine dignity. Don Pedro then devises the plan to have Beatrice and Benedick to get together. Borachio also comes up with the plan to have Hero be seen as unfaithful. They will do this by pretending Maragret is Hero and Borachio and Margaret will then act outside Hero’s window. Don John will then pay Borachio a hefty sum of money. The next morning, Benedick is wandering in the garden and sees Leonato, Claudio, and Don Pedro approaching, so he hides. Don Pedro sees him and they begin the plan to make Beatrice fall in love with him. Benedick is confused by this, but goes along with it as Leonato reaffirms it. Hero, Margaret, and Ursula continue the plan to make Beatrice and Benedick fall in love. They make sure she is around, and start talking praise of Benedick, claiming he is in fact in love with her. The night before the wedding, Don Pedro, Claudio, and Leonato notice that Benedick is exceedingly off. He claims he has a toothache; however, they see it as love. Don John establishes that Hero has been disloyal, and to prove it it tells Don Pedro and Claudio to go to her window that night. Dogberry’s watch play close attention to Leonato’s house where they catch Borachio professing the whole plan to Conrad. They then capture them for questioning. Hero, Margret, and Beatrice get ready for the wedding where Beatrice is melancholy. She claims it is from ache, but Margaret says she is just in need of some carduus benedictus. Leonato is then joined with Dogberry and Verges to tell him that they have caught two auspicious men and asks him to question them. Leonato is too busy with the wedding and asks them to do it. Leonato then walks Hero down the aisle to marry Claudio. When asked if he wishes to marry Hero he answers no, and makes the accusation that Hero has been disloyal. When given her hand, he puts her hand back into Leonato’s hand making her unwanted and unvalued. Don Pedro agrees with Claudio as he saw the yesternights events where she slept with another man. Leonato begins to take the side against Hero. Hero then faints, which then makes everyone believe she has died. Don Pedro, Claudio, and Don John all leave as though nothing has happened. Leonato then goes on and on about how this embarrassment will haunt and dispel his honor throughout the town. Hero regains consciousness and proclaims she doesn’t know anything about what has happened or the man. Benedick claims it could be Don John as he is always causing
