respondent’s own knowledge and feelings on the subject. The questions may not have just one correct answer (if it has any correct
answer at all). Open-ended questions encourage discussion between students, peers, and teachers. By asking questions, students are
able to take their background (prior) knowledge of the topic, information that they have obtained from listening to other students and
from the lesson itself and use higher-level thinking to come up with answers to the questions. In my future classroom, I plan to use a
mixture of questioning strategies. This will allow for all students to answer questions at the beginning of the lesson. As the class learns
the lesson, by asking questions through the lesson I will be able to determine if the students are gaining knowledge and understanding
the lesson. This will allow for me to assess learning and change the lesson if need be to help all students learn.
