was the result of gossip or she simply played a trick on Hermann, both are plausible. This theme is even more obvious in The House of Bernarda Alba when one notices that Bernarda is constantly worried about what the people of the village will think of her and her household. She keeps her own mother locked away in a room because of the way she acts. For Bernarda, the avoidance of negative connotations regarding her family is more important than her mother. Bernarda also mistakes Poncia’s knowledge for gossip. Poncia has foreseen the fact that many of Bernarda’s daughters are in love with Pepe. Bernarda’s failure to listen to Poncia ultimately leads to the death of Adela. Lastly, gossip is observed within the household. The women of Bernarda’s house obsess over discussing the happenings of others in the village. They discuss the marriage of Amelia, something they truly know nothing of. The women also speak of the punishment of Librada’s daughter, who had a baby out of wedlock. These issues are of no concern for Bernarda’s family yet they feel obligated to share the gossip with each other rather than benefit from actual knowledge they may have.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
