However, only ½ of the States allow the full extended work capability of NPs which affects
health care accessibility to the public. In the State of California, the bill that permits NPs to
function independently got denied last year by the Assembly panel in 2015 (California health
line, 2015). Obviously, there are two opposite opinions on this issue. The chief of California
Medical Association stated giving NPs full function as physician put patients at risk. On the other
hand, the president of California Nurses Association mentioned that these practices by NPs have
already existed and implemented (California health line, 2015). I feel that by changing

regulations that provide NPs full authority to perform as a primary care provider will enhance
the healthcare system and the public by delivering affordable care with increased medial access.

nursing” (Karnick, 2013, p. 29). Karnick (2013) also stated that the phenomenon is explained in
a coherent way to improve nursing research and practice. Iskandarani, Al Hammadi,& Al Gizani
(2012) cited that theories in nursing provide the groundwork for nursing knowledge needed and
the scientific backgrounds for different nursing roles. They also mentioned that a strong
theoretical background can provide the support needed to enhance nursing care delivery and
critical thinking along with better decision making (Iskandarani, Al Hammadi, & Al Gizani, 2012).
Cruz (n.d.) stated that theories provide rational to collect related data which is vital to decision
making for nurses. Furthermore, nursing theories assist nurses to provide holistic care and
better reach their professional goals (Iskandarani, Al Hammadi, & Al Gizani , 2012). Iskandarani,
Al Hammadi, & Al Gizani (2012) said “nursing theories enhance students’ understanding of
principles, values, and the meaning of nursing practice” (p. 116). So for Mary, taking a nursing
theory class again as a refresher will help her to provide the best care possible with the latest
information. The other reason that Mary should take this course is that theories can help her
with a new concept of caring. Clark (2013) stated nursing profession is struggling to move to
next level of care, which emphasizes humanism, holistic care, and redefining the old concepts of
