The average person, will interact with the commercial aviation sector during their lifetime. Not as many will interact with general aviation. This is because most people are not pilots and don’t own their own plane. Rather, the majority of people who fly, are passengers aboard a commercially flown aircraft. It is the revenue those passengers pay, to be transported by the airline, which classifies the airline as a commercial operation.However, to say that the average person will interact with the commercial aviation sector of the air transportation industry is a bold statement to make. Not because the number of individualswho participate in general aviation flight is a close second, but because the idea that the average person will interact with flight at all is a newer concept. Prior to the Airline Deregulation act of 1978, this was not the case. Individuals had access to aircraft and airlines did exist, but the market for air travel was not nearly what it is today.Air travel was once a commodity only available to the wealthy. Prior to deregulation, airlinesdid not have the right to set their own fares or decide where they could fly.
