Conclusion: Finally, we will return to class. I will ask the children to discuss in their groups how they could help to reduce the amount of pollution in their environment. As a class, I will then lead the discussion into how everyone needs to help keep their environment clean. We will touch on how each action ‘i.e.: throwing wrappers on the floor’ has a consequence on the environment, and how important it is to reduce our waste and reuse or recycle wherever possible. The learners will then have an opportunity to draw about what they have learned. Introduction: Learners are given 3 different soil samples 2 of which demonstrate soil pollution. As a group, they need to brainstorm possible reasons why the soil samples differ (what may have happened to them). They then tell the class their ideas. Middle: Each learner uses their worksheet to ‘record’ the area that they have chosen to report back on. Once they have all completed their worksheets, the class takes a vote to decide which area should the area that the class cleans up in order to improve the school’s environment. Value: We can all make a difference, and we can choose to do something that impacts our environment positively. Conclusion: Learners will critically think about how they can reduce land pollution, and what actions they could implement to take better care of their environment. They will then be able to draw about what they have learned. Value: We can all make a difference if we reduce, reuse & recycle. Tbilisi Principle: Help learners discover the symptoms and real causes of environmental problems by hypothesizing possible causes & symptoms and then experiencing the real-world problem. Promote the value of, and necessity for, local, national and international cooperation in the prevention and solution of environmental problems by discussing how everyone can make a difference in reducing pollution through living more sustainably and responsibly. Assessment task: Formative assessment: Through observation of how well each learner grasps new concepts, and what information was recalled during the conclusion. Summative assessment: Through evaluation of their worksheets and drawings. Homework: Learners will be asked to monitor how well their family recycles or lives sustainably and report back in the morning. Teacher reflection I feel that this lesson is highly successful in helping learners to understand that people pollute the land terribly and that every conservation effort goes a long way to save the environment. They also understand that their actions have a large impact.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
