Personal Journeys Discipline
Having years of experience as an RN supervisor, I rated myself fairly high. By all means I do
not consider myself an expert because we all have room for improvement and growth. In my
experience in long term care I have managed a wound team and educated on wounds, I also
served on the safety committee. Currently I have accepted a role as a mentor for the RN extern
program at the hospital and again am on the safety committee. I feel being involved can help

your voice be heard when needed. I want to set a good example for younger nurses as well as
guide them to be the best they can.
Reflective Practice Reference Behaviors/Tenants
Reflective practice is the capacity to reflect on actions so we can continue the process of
learning. (Jacobs, S. 2016). Competing this section requires one to be open and honest with
oneself. Personally, I feel competent in this section. My supervisors and co-workers have
described me as honest and non-judgmental. I strive to be an all-around good person, as the Lord
would want me to be. Growing up in small town America I was not exposed to many different
races or cultures. However, with the local fruit orchards in the area there are now many
immigrant workers, and my daughter marrying a man of another race my diversity has expanded.
This has given me a better understanding of others and their life experiences in general.
Advocating Change in The Workplace
Nursing is an ever changing and challenging career; it involves a team of others that work for the
better of their patients. Using my past experiences as a supervisor especially that of listening and
