Student analysis of the case study: The major issue facing Gomez is the recruitment and selection of low tier employees such as desk clerks, night manager, reservations, maid service, food service and maintenance. The company’s target customers are high income so an emphasis is being placed on experience, interpersonal communications skills, and commitment to the organization. She believe senior citizens would be suitable candidates for these position. Additionally, Gomez needs to ensure an adequate system is in place to verify background of all new employee to limit the company’s liability. In addition to accessing a large pool of applicants, software is available to conduct background checks on prospective candidates to ensure the most qualified and eligible people are bring hired.
Case study questions/answers: 1. What recruitment sources do you recommend Jackson Hotels use to recruit seniors for the kinds of positions they are planning to utilize? Why?While online recruiting tools are a popular way to identify candidates, senior citizens may not use Internet websites. My suggestion would be to supplement Internet base solutions with collaboration with business partners such as AARP to build a pool of potential candidates. Additionally, target areas where seniors typically congregate such aslibraries, community centers, churches and volunteer organizations. In my opinion, Jackson Hotels must diversify its recruiting strategy to target senior citizens. A combination of Internet resources, and collaboration with associations that support older workers is a sound strategy to find potential candidates.
