clings to it as wholly true, they will not take God at His word. However, God and the Bible are what our founding fathers built our nation on. Even the Declaration of Independence makes references to God at least four different times. Our “founding fathers” were the fifty-five men present at the Constitutional Convention, fifty-five of which made their denomination a public record. An astonishing fifty-one of them (95%) claimed to be Christians, leaving only four who claimed Deism. Out of that 95%, 70% of them were

Vandergrift 4 actually considered to be the most extreme form of Christianity. Benjamin Franklin, a founding father often used to defend the claim that our founding fathers were Deists, forsook Deism after he was adopted out of his Puritan family. He was the individual who called for prayer at the Convention where he quoted at least four direct quotes from scripture, per James Madison, who was recording the event. Madison recorded Franklin’s words: “And have we forgotten that powerful Friend? Or do we imagine that we no longer need His assistance? I have lived, sir, a long time and the longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?” These men loved the Lord and knew that our country needed morals and a system of right and wrong. When a society blurs that line between right and wrong, chaos ensues because every man does “that which is right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25). George Washington stated, “It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.” And that statement has only been proven more and more true as our country progresses. Every step we have taken away from God, the darker and more vile the things we accept. Sodom and Gomorrah was a city in Bible days destroyed for homosexuality. Leviticus 18:13 says, “Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with woman kind: it is abomination.” People “change the truth of God into a lie and worshipped and served the created more than the Creator.” The Bible says, “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.” Mark 10:6 says, “But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female,” and later continues, “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” As His creation, it is not our place to determine what marriage should or should not be. With that being said, though a person may be living in sin, it does not in any way lessen God’s love for that individual. You may have heard the quote, “Hate the sin, love the sinner.”

Vandergrift 5 That is exactly God’s view on the matter. He knows that with our fallen nature, we are all sinners. It is the holiness of His nature that sin penetrates, and it is that sin for which he sent His Son to die. John 3:16
