5. Identify and discuss appropriate modes of transportation for the following items: a. Apple iPads: Motor is the best mode of transportation because it provides excellent ride quality and protection to the products. Products can also be transported in less time. b. True Religion jeans: The product can be best transported via truck, line haul freight, short line carriers, and general cargo ships. The product is small in size and is always shipped in large quantities. The methods listed above would make transport cost effective. Transporting these products via air would increase product cost. c. Pressure treated lumber: it requires a special carrier to transport from one place to another as it uses “chromate coper arsenate” toxic chemical. Containerships can be used to transport this type of standardized products as it requires special handling. d. Coal: for shorter distance, trucks can be used. Freight claim o It is a claim made by the buyer for the loss caused by the shipper during transportation. o It is the monetary compensation claimed by the buyer for the defects or loss caused by the shipper on the shipped goods. It has to be supported by photographs of the damage of the goods. o The form also contains a letter of instruction, shipment materials, dock receipts, and insurance certificates. 7.
