3APPLICATION OF STATISTICS IN HEALTH CAREcritiqued, which sets the basis for excellent standards of care and continued quality improvement. Patient safety is always a number one concern for healthcare organizations. Statistics helps aid how to accomplish our national patient safety goals (NPSG’s). Up to 98,000 patients die annually in hospitals related to medical errors (Center for Patient Safety, 2019). Some errors that are measured include medication errors, adverse events or reactions, hospital acquired infections and sentinel events. As a result of this information, leaders in the healthcare industry are steadily researching new and better ways to avoid errors and establish innovative ways to reduce patient safety events, and at the same time help with financial cost. In America alone, safety improvement by way of statistical data, led to approximately $28 billion in savings from medical costs (WHO, 2018). Data is constantly collected to analyze the best possible results. Statistics related to health promotion are regularly being researched by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to stay abreast on all health promotion topics to ensure the safest practicein healthcare. Health promotion is crucial in healthcare. It helps individuals and communities stay educated on how to be in the best health they possibly can. It focuses on preventative health and also assists individuals on how to improve their already poor health. Health promotion aids in negative behaviors that effect health such as tobacco use, lack of physical exercise, and poor eating habits, which all share responsibility in the development of chronic diseases. Demographic statistics help to anticipate the services needed in communities and the level of care that is affordable. Statistics allows healthcare professionals to analyze the needs of a diversified area with what services are currently available. Some examples of outcomes from theuse of statistics in healthcare in health promotion are increase in child immunizations, decrease heart disease and healthier, safer foods (National Institute of Health, 2019-a).
