As a professional, I want to contribute to my community by serving the underserved mental health population. It is known globally that there is a shortage of mental health practitioners. I want to be a part of the practitioner team to help advocate and treat the mentally ill. More voices and advocacy for this area of healthcare is warranted. My experience working in a community mental health center has proven my dedication and compassion toward this population. Course Outcomes Being a new student at Walden University in an online atmosphere, I found this course to be beneficial. I have appreciated how this course introduced me to the variety of resources and tools that Walden offers to help support my success in the master’s program. This course has helped ease some of my apprehension as I began this new journey. I feel more confident navigating through the classroom, using safe assign, and using Grammarly. I have also grasped a better understanding of what scholarly writing is in comparison to other writing pieces. I have also learned the importance of knowing the difference between an active voice and a passive voice when writing. Lastly, I have had the opportunity to get into a good rhythm with balancing my time management as a student, an employee, a wife and a parent. As I continue to grow as a student in my master’s program, I will continue to improve my writing skills. Something that I have found to be a challenge is the writing style is at a different level in a master’s program than it was in my bachelor’s program. I plan to utilize Walden’s Writing Center to guide me when needed. I also plan to continue to practice navigating through Walden’s Library to help me feel more confident in searching for credible sources. Seeking additional guidance from the online librarian is also my plan of action when I am not finding what I am searching for.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN 5 Practicum In my opinion, incorporating a practicum in a master’s education program is imperative.
