Mrs. Mallard can now go out and live the life she wants to live. Mrs. Mallard’s future thoughts have caused happiness in her life, and she now feels free. Mrs. Mallard is ready for a long life and with that comes her freedom of mind. Her mind dwells on all the wondrous things she can still do while she is young just as Hughes’s mind wonders with more questions the results of a dream deferred. “Or crust and sugar over—/ like a syrupy sweet?”(Hughes Ln. 7-8). Though Hughes’ immediate thoughts seemed a little dark for his future thoughts, considered later in the piece, are more light hearted and saccharine ideals. Thoughts never the less can change one’s perception of life in so many ways that life seems to be totally different. Beyond a premature immediate thought and even beyond a mature future thought, it is the perception of life that one gains from thinking that really matters in the
