Running head: Performance4first call resolution, or sales and did not meet the other expectations receiving an overall rating ofoutstanding is not accurate [ CITATION Lau13 \l 1033 ]. Finally, recent events are a bias where the latest events prior to the review become the main focus of the review. An employee could have displayed behaviors of being a team player throughout the year. These behaviors could have been covering shifts when under staffed, takings on extra projects outside of their job description, and training newly hired employees. In the final two months prior to the review period the employee could have stepped back from these responsibilities due to personal issues that required their attention. An employer could rate the employee as not meeting the team player metric without considering that majority of the year they fulfilled this goal.Performance Appraisals Contribution to Strategic ObjectivesPerformance appraisal can contribute to the achievement of strategic objectives if management initiates and build performance excellence within the organization’s culture. As stated in the text, “Many factors within an organization can have a direct impact on the performance appraisal process; one of the most influential factors is organizational culture” (Youssef, 2012, ch. 6 sec. 6). This done by identifying the employees needs, recruiting qualified candidates, implementing training for growth, determining pay raises, rewards, and promotions. Performance appraisals also support sound work practices, at the same time they promote good performance. When an employee receives acknowledgment for excellent work, this lets the employee know that what they are doing for the company matters, and is valued throughout the whole company. This in turn improves employee morale and promotes good cohesion amongst co-workers. In short, appraisals provide insight on the work of each employee and allow the management team to formulate a proper course of action.
