requirements, provide the appropriate PPE and routine education and training that is available for all employees to minimize exposure (Oncology Nursing Society, 2016). Healthcare is constantly changing and it is vital that organizations continually assess their current policy and procedures and update or replace if needed. One of the best ways to ensure successful implementation of any changes is to ensure that all team members are on board. The change project to reduce nurses’ exposure to chemotherapy will be guided by use of Lippitt’s Change Theory with a democratic leadership. For successful change to occur it is essential to understand the problem, determine a resolution, implement changes and constantly evaluate outcomes and Lippitt’s Change Theory incorporates these factors (Mitchell, 2013). More importantly the leadership style in which Lippitt’s change theory is introduced plays a big role in whether change will be successful. The democratic style of leadership which values the input of all members of the group and encourages teamwork will be combined with Lippitt’s change theory to organize this change project (Mitchell, 2013). In order for the successful implementation of a comprehensive hazardous drug e ducation and medical surveillance program, it is necessary to collaborate with management and clinical staff members to gain insight into current practices and how to effectively implement change. The programs will include engineering, administrative and work practice controls, all of which are recommended by OSHA, ASCO and ONS in the safe handling of HDs (Graeve, McGovern, Arnold, & Polovich, 2017). As part of this change process it is important to select an individual(s) who will oversee the implementation of the education program, audit the MSDS yearly and update to include new HDs being administered, and annually review policies and procedures (Eisenberg, 2017). The education and training program for new staff members will consist of an on-site eight- hour class which will include content as recommended by The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) with a quiz at the conclusion of the class. Upon successful completion of the onsite training program staff members will be required to obtain their chemotherapy / biotherapy provider card by completing the online course provided ONS. Annual competency evaluations will consist of an abbreviated refresher course and a quiz which will be focused on recent updates and/or changes and will include clinical observation to review competency. Checklists will be used
