Institutional discrimination is one big thing in society today, many people may not want to help a person simply because of their gender or race. Someone with a drug addiction that is a female may be treated differently then a male, they might think the male is less successful than the female. Society shouldn’t go by discriminating people or by how much money they make butsadly that’s the way it goes, they should be able to help everyone no matter the situation, sometimes people want to better themselves and they can’t because of an income situation or because the institution they want to go to is discriminating. They want to put people in these different categories and groups, like they are some kind of label and people are treated differently, but if society was different maybe people would actually believe in themselves and have faith, they would recover from drug addiction. But instead they are labeled and put in some category like they are nothing to society. The media plays a role in institutional discrimination because they want to put people in these different kind of groups and show the world discrimination how it’s done wrong but people watching the media still believe in it and people who are trying to better themselves in rehabs are not given that opportunity because the color of 2
their skin or gender and if there is this preconception about this certain person or category they are not given the same rights and chances to advance in society.
