Interpretation Unfortunately, this painting has no artist statement, neither from the museum or online. Perhaps due to how long ago his statement was either lost or never had one. However, this leaves the piece of work entirely up to the interpretation of the viewer. What this could mean is that he did not want to be dictated to a statement behind his work and could have done so purposely so people could not label his art I’m sure superlative in the 1700’s. However, what does this mean to me? I much prefer this move by the artist to have an ambiguous and self-determined outlook on the art work. This art work relates to my life personally because it doesn’t matter where you can be for what occasion or how you look, there will always be a darkness and behind everything I can still feel the same emotion felt in the dancer’s eyes as you see how sleepy her gaze has become. On top of that, the implied message behind the dancer, as she is alone is what resonates within me. It appears she is having a joyful time being social, meanwhile we have no proof that any of that is true. I feel much sympathy in this painting. I do not get any joy from this painting as she is flaunting a very extravagant dress but material things to not buy everything. The look she has is like a façade as there is much more behind what the blind eye can see which is revealed in her facial expression. At this time in Persia there could be symbolic symbols that represent the social construct of the time by painting women in these clothings rather than other people. He most likely was creating it for a very noble and rich person as he was trying to establish his ability or emulate it after a beloved one.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
