enforcement of regulations as well as an uncertainty as to where profits end up exactly. There are two main problems that hold the industry of ecotourism from succeeding as much as it could: the lack of political will and public pressure to have strong conservation efforts in regards to tourism and lifestyles. After all, conservation efforts and making ecologically responsible decisions becomes a lifestyle. People are so accustomed to certain luxuries in life and it is a very difficult idea to even entertain for most people. People believe that development and creating new technologies to make our lives easier is always a good thing and we should utilize everything we have access to. People believe they are entitled to the luxuries we have created for ourselves. In order to have access to these luxuries, people must be economically successful as well. This idea of success does not only pertain to developed countries, but it is also what developing countries strive for. Costa Rica’s ecotourism attraction is that much of the land is still preserved and not as developed, or destroyed, as most countries. At the same time, the people of Costa Rica still strive to have the same economical success as other countries. For ecotourism to be successful, they must “incorporate economic development as a fundamental element of conservation” (Langan, Ecotourism in Costa Rica). This creates a balance between preservation and the success that people strive for. People need to change their ideas of success to really fulfill the standards of ecotourism that are set by various certifications such as CST, the New Key, Blue Flag as well as documents such as Agenda 21 and the Rio Declaration. To fulfill all aspects of ecotourism, there is a necessity for a certain amount of funding needed to complete the requirements to a full degree as well as to sustain and improve their ecotourism efforts and practices. In order to do this, there needs to be a fair amount of profit involved in regards to how business works at this point in history.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
