Companies that can communicate with foreign countries are more easily able to expand their markets. Because knowing a second language is such a valuable resource in the job market, graduates will be more desirable simply because they can speak another language. The Modern Language Association of America “recommends that you study abroad and even live in the country to truly understand the language,” “Blazing your career path”. A student learning a foreign language, on a college campus, does not speak as fluently as someone who has studied in a country, speaking the language. Because a student at college isn’t surrounded by people speaking the language, they typically have no one to speak outside of class. They won’t learn the language as well as they could abroad. For some students, the foreign language requirement may be enough to speak a language fluently, but for most students, their second language will be very limited. Through learning a second language is a valuable asset, learning another language in college is not the best time. College is a time for students to prepare themselves for the working world. They have many requirements to fulfill in order to complete their major before they graduate, and a foreign language requirement just adds to students’ stress. It is not realistic to ask a college student, with numerous prerequisites, to commit to daily classes to study a language that do not pertain to their desired major. A foreign language is not a necessity; it is extracurricular that may benefit people's future. A proposal that would fix the problems with the current foreign language requirement is to implement those programs during the elementary and middle school years. argues show that learning a second language at a young age is much easier than learning a language as an adult. By moving the foreign language requirement to an earlier age, children will have a much easier time learning the language than in college. Also, children will sound more like a native speaker rather than someone with an unusual accent. (Tresch)

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
