encodes (pg 17) her message with negative connation (pg 17) bothers me. It’s not the headband that bothers me as much as the sass she carries with it. She gets offended at the simplest comments. It would be fine if she wore the headband if she didn’t do it in front of me. She can’t take correction. The rest of the day has an “on the edge” feeling that neither one of us can stand. These kinds of things happen often. It might have been a little exaggerated, but not by much. We both don’t mean to come off the way we do, but we’re perceived by the other as attacking. We both look at the relational (pg 17) meaning of the words and not the content (pg 17) . She is conservative, and I’m just not. She is the sweetest lady, and I’m a spitfire. I love doing new, crazy things with my hair, and she’s had the same cute hair cut since my parent’s engagement pictures. We just have different viewpoints on little things, but it bothers me a lot sometimes. I want to learn how to respond to her, but still get my point across without offending her.

This relationship is worth saving because we get along so well when we do. I understand that there will always be things about our personalities that conflict. But I don’t want the little things to turn into big things one day and cause a huge disagreement on something as stupid and pointless as a headband. Maybe this is a good time to use metacommunication (pg 29).

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
