3. Record and describe any observations and sounds you heard below: Lungs were clear anteriorly, posteriorly, and bilaterally in all fields. 4. How do you think the lung sounds would differ if a person was suffering from: a. Asthma Attack: You would hear wheezing in the upper fields and possibly audibly w/out a stethoscope. b. Chronic Bronchitis: You would hear rhonchi throughout the lungs, kind of like a popping of bubble wrap. c. Pneumonia: You would hear a wet sound, kind of crackle-like in the bases mostly (Betts, 2017).

Part 04 Procedure: Pig Specimen Dissection 1. Refer to the Anatomy and Physiology Dissection Guide- Respiratory Unit to complete the procedure of the anatomical examination of the respiratory system within the pig specimen. Locate the anatomical structures (pig specimen) listed in Appendix A while utilizing the dissection guide 2. Make sure you store your specimen properly and disinfect your workstation with the appropriate bleach solution. Post-Lab Evaluation Questions The post lab evaluation questions must be completed prior to your submission of the lab. Answers for these questions will be derived from the lab protocol, the weekly concepts associated with the lab and possibly research content from the book and/or online resources. Please cite your work for any reference source you utilize in answering these questions. 1. What did you find interesting and notable regarding the pig specimen dissection of the respiratory system? I have dissected a goat’s respiratory system previously and found the pig specimen to be quite similar to both human and goat anatomy. We did find It more difficult to differentiate the trachea and the esophagus in the younger pig specimen. 2. Describe in your own words, how the brainstem, oxygen levels of the blood, and carbon dioxide levels of the blood all influence respiration rate. Breathing is a subconscious reflex controlled in the brainstem and is influence primarily by the need to get rid of CO2. As your activity level increases, more O2 is exchanged in the body which means CO2 levels increase in the blood requiring an increase in respiratory effort to exchange these gasses in the lungs (Betts, 2017). 3. In your own words, briefly describe the gas exchange that occurs within the lungs. Include the concepts of partial pressure of the oxygen and carbon dioxide, blood perfusion of the lungs and alveolar sacs As we inhale, air moves in to the alveoli, water vapor and CO2 are added and reduce the partial pressure of O2 in the alveolar sacs. This allows O2 and CO2 to exchange through the thinnest part of the capillary/ alveolar walls by diffusion (as CO2 leaves the bloodstream, O2 moves in (Sanders, 2007). 4. Describe the different the classifications of treatments for asthma and generally how they help restore normal breathing function.
