Causes: A cause is relatives of individuals with schizo are more likely to have PDD than ppl who do not have a relative w/ schizo. It is unknown why they have maladaptive thoughts, but speculation is that their roots made them think that way. (parents may teach them to always be careful etc.) Cultural factors are implicated w/ PDD like prisoners, refugees, hearing impairments, older adults due to their experiences. Treatments: They are unlikely to seek treatment due to mistrust. If they do seek help relationship between therapist/client is important . Cognitive therapy is used to counter persons belief or changing their beliefs. No treatment so far has helped these individuals only 11% therapist thought these individuals would continue in therapy long enough to be helped. o Schizoid: A pervasive pattern of detachment from social relationships and a restricted range of expression interpersonal settings. Symptoms/Characterisitcs: Social isolation is painful. They seem aloof, cold, and indifferent to other people, they lack emotional expressiveness and pursued vague interests, They appear cold & detached and do not care for others praise or criticism . Homelessness is prevalent with these individuals because they lack any relationship with anyone. Causes/Treatments: Little research has been published on the nature & causes of this disorder. Childhood shyness is reported as a precursor later adult schizoid PD. It may be that this PD trait is inherited, Abuse/Reglet, Autism .

Treatment received is Social skills training or role plaing. o Schizotypal: (Aka Odd & bizarre) A pervasive pattern of social and interpersonal deficits marked by acute discomfort with reduced capacity for close relationships, as well as by cognitive or perceptual distortions and eccentricities of behavior. Symptoms/Characteristics: “continuum” Suspicious & have odd beliefs. They have psychoticlike (not psychotic) symptoms (believing everything relates to them personally), social deficits, cognitive impairments, paranoia. They have odd beliefs or engage in “magical thinking” thinking they are telepathic. Suspicious, paranoid thoughts, express little emotion, dress or behave unusual (ex: wear layers of clothing in the summer or mumble to themselves.) Causes: The cause of schizotypal personality disorder is unknown, but there is an increased incidence among relatives (environment) of those with the condition. Awareness of risk, such as a family history of schizophrenia, may allow early diagnosis. Treatment: People with schizotypal pd request clinical help often seek assistance due to anxiety or depression. Same treatments as one who has depression, antipsychotic medications, community treatment, and social skills. 7. Antisocial, Borderline, Histrionic, & Narcissistic– what are they, symptoms, general characteristics, causes, and treatment o Antisocial: A pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others.
