CWI (a specific form of hydrotherapy), affected athletes’ ability to recover after intense cardiovascular exercises such as sprints and MMA. The case studied whether CWI would have an effect on recovery time and perceived wellness within a 24-hour period. To spare extreme details, the study concluded that “The use of CWI resulted in an enhanced recovery of 10-m sprint performance, as well as improved perceived wellness 24-h following simulated MMA competition” (Tabben, Montassar, et. al, 2018, para. 1). This research study helps to validate the point that hydrotherapy in at least one of its many forms can be used to help muscular injuries,

5 ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE recovery, and rapid performance in a simulated setting. While Hydrotherapy helps many different maladies of the body, what about illnesses and disorders of the mind? Magnetic field therapy is an up and coming form of alternative medicine to treat bodily illnesses as well as illnesses of the mind. This form of therapy results from the use of magnets to treat physical and mental maladies. The theory behind this is that “when magnets are applied to a painful area of the body, all cells in that area react in such a way as to increase blood circulation, ion exchange, and oxygen flow to the area. Magnetic fields attract and repel charged particles in the bloodstream, increasing blood flow and producing heat. Increased oxygen in the tissues and blood stream is thought to make a considerable difference in the speed of healing” (Sharp & Cataldo, 2015 para 4). This form of therapy is also a minimally invasive therapy with a large lack of side effects. The only side effect given was when patients with mental illnesses were treated with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), they reported a mild headache at most (Sharp & Cataldo, 2015, para 7). The only downside to this therapy is the relatively higher price that could come out of it, so it is recommended that those who are interested do research and start small in terms of treatment methods (Sharp & Cataldo, 2015, para 6). Though not extensively researched, the studies that are present for the treatment are overwhelmingly positive. In a recent research study, researchers from Keio University intended to “systematically evaluate the cognitive effects of rTMS in depression, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer’s disease” (Reports on Alzheimer’s disease, 2019, Para. 2). The study opened doors to further understanding as well as a base for more research to be done on the subject itself. The final findings of the research experiment itself were very promising. The conclusion reached by the study was that rTMS provided a positive cognitive effect on function and attention with depression, however it caused an inconsistent improvement in the Schizophrenia and

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
