weeks writing a type of submission that I had never written before, so I feel like I’m growing as an attorney too.” • “One thing in Weil’s favor is that people will give you as much as you can handle. If a first year can do a third year’s work, then they are given the opportunity to do that.” • “You get your fair share of administrative drudgery as a junior, but I also have plenty of substantive work, and generally I’m included in the big-picture meetings about the direction of the matter at hand.” • “As the most junior person on the team I am often asked to do the less substantive tasks, but I am also given a chance to take a first pass on more substantive tasks as much as possible given project constraints.” Training & Mentoring • “Lots of mentoring activities, the firm puts together interesting pairings for pro bono so that everyone works with different people, the senior associates and partners I have been working for are great with feedback.” • “The formal training is largely based out of the New York office, with a fair number of full-day and two-day trainings that require a lot of time and commitment. They are good programs and show the investment of the firm in associates.” • “We have frequent formal training sessions with the other offices, and these are usually well done. The senior associates have been very patient in showing the ropes to the juniors. The firm does have a mentorship system, but this formal system seems less important than the informal connections that get formed.” • “Firm management have been looking to improve training, which I appreciate as a junior. They recently held a seminar on understanding corporate finance, and have implemented a firm wide writing program. Some programs are still outdated, however.” Career Outlook • “Partnership is a long-ways away, but even in a slower year several senior associates were promoted. Firm takes a long-view towards partnership development. Even as a first- year, I feel strongly encouraged to take root and develop my interests. But there’re bi-weekly emails with external opportunities and a lot of transparency about associate opportunities.” • “It is very difficult to make partner at Weil, especially from a satellite office, but the experience you get a Weil and the reputation that is associated with it, puts us on a very good position to move in-house, to a peer law firm or to a smaller law firm. The in-house opportunities are particularly good. We’ve had associates going to big companies like Apple, Google, and LinkedIn and hot start ups.” • “The Weil partnership track has gotten too long. 10+ years is too long to wait to know whether you will get your one and only promotion in our industry. However, the Weil name is well respected and is helpful to transition to in-house opportunities, if one chooses to do so.” • “Above average time requirements to make partner. There are non-partner roles to which senior associates can transition.”

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
