The author employs the three strategies in his argument. As stated earlier, logos involve logics. Claude states that social identities strongly affect one’s life in almost all aspects from the pressure experienced. This is true because he adjusted to swimming on Wednesdays since he was identified as black. He let this identity take control of his activities. Another instance is that of Brent an African American Psychology student who is seen as an expert in the language of fear. People would mute upon seeing him if they were conversing while others would cross to the other side of the street upon seeing him. He had a hard time dealing with people who stereotyped about his race. In relation to this, Claude believes that stereotype threat is a standard predicaments of life that springs out from human powers of intersubjectivity. Brent is suffered stereotyping from his neighborhoods that young African Americans are violent. He devised a way of bringing the situation down by whistling classical music along the streets and with time people enjoyed his whistling draining their tension. He is saddened by the fact that certain insignificant conditions in life can be of great influence and wonders why one has to live by these conditions and how many more conditions is one required to deal with in life. Again, anybody can experience identity contingencies. Claude talks of whites who have had similar experiences and they are disturbing.
