3. List 3 ways patient confidentiality is maintained in the reception/waiting area of a medical office. Make sure that staff conversations cannot be heard by the patients that are in the waiting area. Do not use the patient’s full name just use either their last name or first name. Make sure that computer screens are not visible to the patients and medical records are not left out and opened. It’s extremely important to make sure that we as professional are maintaining patient records and to keep quiet about a patients information. 4. A breach of confidentiality can result in what consequences for a health care professional? 5. Identify and explain two exceptions to confidentiality in healthcare settings. Suspected child abuse and elder abuse are both exceptions to the rule of confidentiality. Other exceptions include mental health and matters of greater good. Let’s say that you have a patient come in that has obvious signs of either child or elder abuse then you would have to contact social services and make a report with local authorities. Another example is greater good and that could actually be something like swine flu or perhaps you receive information about a patients intentions to blow up a building.
