Server Manager is a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in that provides aconsolidated view of the server, including information about server configuration, status ofinstalled roles, and links for adding and removing roles and features. Server Manager replaces anumber of features from Microsoft Windows®Server® 2003 such as Manage Your Server,Configure Your Server, and Add or Remove Windows Components. It is composed of thefollowing elements:Initial Configuration TasksA new feature in Windows Server 2008 that is startedautomatically after setup is complete; Initial Configuration Tasks helps the administratorcomplete the setup and initial configuration of a new server. It includes tasks such asjoining the server to an existing domain, enabling Windows Update, and configuringfeedback sent to Microsoft.Add Roles WizardUse this wizard to add one or more roles to the server. The AddRoles Wizard automatically checks for dependencies between roles, and ensures that allrequired roles and features are installed based on user selections. For some roles, such asTerminal Services and Active Directory Certificate Services, the Add Roles Wizard alsoprovides configuration pages that allow the user to specify how the role should beconfigured as part of the installation process.Add Role Services WizardSome roles, such as File Services, Terminal Services, andActive Directory Certificate Services, are composed of multiple sub-elements, which areidentified as role services in the Server Manager interface. After a role is installed, youcan add more role services by using the Add Role Services Wizard.Add Features WizardSimilar to the Add Roles Wizard, this wizard enables you toinstall features on the server.Remove Roles WizardUse this wizard to remove a role that is no longer needed on thecomputer.
