Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Mooney, 2019). Get rid of all the country’s coal plants, run the country purely on renewables, and we’ll still be left with the top source of greenhouse gas emissions: transportation. Carbon-belching cars, trucks, and planes are now the greatest source of U.S. carbon emissions, a title held by power generation until 2017. It’s a sprawling problem that accounts for more than a quarter of yearly greenhouse gases. Our transportation system is designed for long, interstate road trips; climate change isn’t a consideration (Moran, 2019). It is my hope that Congress can make an agreement to improve on our transportation infrastructure with ideas like high-speed railways and electric city buses. One last point that I would like to make is about the connection between climate change and illnesses. Zoonotic diseases are diseases transmitted from animals to people through direct contact with infected animals, products, or wastes. Continued climate change will: • Increase the susceptibility of animals to disease, consequently increasing the likelihood of contracting human illnesses from animals. • Alter the range, seasonality, and incidence of zoonotic diseases, most likely bringing about a longer and more dangerous disease season.

• Influence the length of the vector’s transmission cycle and thus the incidence of human infection. Another negative result of climate change are mycotoxins. Mycotoxins are a group of highly toxic chemical substances that are produced by toxigenic molds that commonly grow on several crops. They are transferred to humans via direct consumption of infected crops or through livestock that have consumed contaminated feed. At high doses, mycotoxins produce acute symptoms and deaths, and mycotoxins may possess carcinogenic, immunosuppressive, neurotoxic, estrogenic, and teratogenic activity. Because mycotoxins are produced by molds,
