September 2016 Data Driven K&L Gates advised global interconnection and data center company Equinix on the acquisition of Digital Realty’s operating business in St. Denis, Paris, including its real estate and data center facility, for approximately 190 million. The acquisition of the new Paris site enhances Equinix’s recently expanded data center portfolio in EMEA. May 2016 Lighting the Way K&L Gates represented longstanding client LKQ Corporation in a patent suit with Clearlamp LLC. A federal judge in the N. District of Illinois ruled that the claims set forth in Clearlamp’s patent involving a process to refurbish vehicle headlights were not inventive enough and therefore invalid. 325 Vault Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms, 2018 Edition K&L GATES called inter partes review. LKQ is a publicly traded Fortune 500 company with US$7 billion in revenue that provides aftermarket auto parts and accessories around the world. February 2016 My Neo K&L Gates advised cancer genetics diagnostic company NeoGenomics Inc. in its complex $310 million cash and stock acquisition of General Electric Health Care Life Sciences unit Clarient Inc. GETTING HIRED Vault’s Verdict: Of course grades, school, journal experience, and clerkships are important and K&L Gates values these highly. But at the end of the day—or recruiting season—it’s personality that is the determining factor. K&L Gates is looking to hire people they want to work with, so self-starters and team players apply away! Hiring Process • “The firm is looking for smart, well-rounded candidates who will be good at business development in addition to just practicing law. Grades are important, prior work experience helps, personality is important, too (though there are a myriad of diverse personalities at the firm).” • “K&L Gates is competitive in a different way. You need good grades from a top school, but you also need to be friendly and personable. The DC office routinely hires top students from regional law schools that are not even T-20, and they excel here. In this way, we are less elitist than some other firms. Classes are small, and the process is competitive, but not in a purely ‘on paper’ kind of way.” • “We tend to focus on having practical experience from clerkships, to shadowing opportunities to prior work experience. Skills and relevant technical backgrounds are definitely more important than having a big name.” • “I believe the firm is looking for smart, engaging, self-starters who would be willing to thrive in a competitive environment.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
