ANS: Answers may include: a. In general, children with autism are difficult to treat because of their impaired communication, lack of social skills, and restricted interests. Similarly, Ariel’s older age at diagnosis is not beneficial. Her extreme behavior (rocking) will need to be reduced or eliminated before progress in other areas can be made. b. Applied behavioral analysis—intensive behavior therapy for autism based on operant conditioning (reinforced behaviors should increase in frequency; behaviors that are not reinforced should diminish). The largest complaint is that it requires an extremely intensive time commitment on behalf of the child’s parents or caretakers (at least 40 hours of treatment per week). The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
