5.What are the stories that you have been told about the missions in California?
What about the native people who built these missions?
I was told that the Natives didn’t know how to read and write, that they were basicallyilliterate, so the Spanish showed them how. In return, the native people showed themissionaries how to harvest, fish, and hunt. What about the people of color?
What happens when we don’t tell stories of ALL different people in California?
6.What about you? What terms do you use to identify yourself?
How does these terms work to represent you as a person?
What is your “California” story? Has this story been told? In other words, has your storybeen represented in school, in media, in film, in stories, and/ or in art? Why or why not?
reason for this is to represent not only myself, but our whole Latino community. I feellike many women of color aren’t really shown much spotlight and I want to step in.What do you hope to get out of this class? Why did you take this class?
