The third supporting reason I chose was gun control laws will not prevent criminals from obtaining guns and breaking the law. We have all seen and heard about the mass shootings that have occurred in our country’s recent past. Many of them were committed by people who could not legally obtain a gun due to previous criminal backgrounds or mental health issues. Due to theinternet anyone can get a gun for the right amount of money. There was a serial killer in my hometown that had multiple guns on his property. He could not buy a gun legally because he had
a felony charge in another state. However, he had someone else buy them for him. After he was caught, the guy that bought them for him was charged but had he not given those guns to the serial killer then who know what would have happened to the seven victims he murdered. While I do not believe gun control laws will make everything better, there are valid arguments to adding additional gun control laws. The first one is, that the second amendment is not an unlimited right to own guns. I do agree with the argument that people do not need to own certain automatic weapons. They should also not be able to own an unlimited amount of guns. There does need to be a limit on the number and types of guns that people can own. People should not be able to own military type weapons. This argument also means that there are peoplewho should not be able to own guns. People who have previous history of mental illness or prior felony convictions, including murder, manslaughter and armed robbery, should not be able to own guns despite the fact that the second amendment seems to grant this right to ALL Americans.
