one earthquake occurs every 11seconds in the world. Its hard to imagine. I decided to do some research on the Northern Sumatra, Indonesia earthquake that occurred December 26 2004. This was an 8.6 magnitude earthquake. This area of the world that the earthquake occurred in is very tectonically active and has some frequent significant earthquakes. The main cause of the devastation of this earthquake had to do primarily with the deadly tsunami that occurred from the quake. The likely hood of another earthquake occurring in this area would be high, historically this region has some pretty devastating earthquakes because of the very active tectonic areas. In my present location, I would say the likely hood of a earthquake occurring where I live would be pretty slim as for 10 years down the road I would say about the same. I couldn’t find any type of quake that is on modern records in my area. The Sumatra Earthquake of December 26, 2004. (n.d.). Retrieved August 7, 2014, from 2004 Sumatra Earthquake. (n.d.). Retrieved August 7, 2014, from Tsunami! Sumatra 2004. (n.d.). Retrieved August 7, 2014, from
