1.What does White Privilege mean to you? 2.What in the reading was particularly interesting, surprised you, or was new information to you? 3.What are your reactions to identifying some of the privileges and disadvantages associated with some of your social group memberships?
A privilege that I read on the article was that white skin people give more opportunities to other white skinned. McIntosh said “But a "white" skin in the United States opens many doors for whites”. This statement could be an advantage for my social group but it serves as a disadvantage for people that are not in my social group. Another advantage that I read was that I was taught the same as Peggy, to not be racist. My family taught me that everyone is thesame no matter the skin color is. Peggy said “I did not see myself as a racist because I was taught to recognize racism only in individual acts of meanness by members of my group”.4.In what ways might the information in the reading be useful to you? 5.Provide at least 3 questions that you still have about this form oppression?
