They can start by implementing formal processes and structures that not only allow but also encourage nurses to actively participate in organization-wide decision-making. This can be achieved by appointing nurses to various committees and challenging them to share their ideas about how to improve organizational processes (Kutney-Lee et al., 2016). The Magnet Recognition/Pathways to Excellence Program is also a useful tool to use when implementing shared governance. It provides practice standards that can help an organization to effectively implement shared governance. Conclusion In summary, collective bargaining involves negotiating with the employer for better employment terms. To be effective, parties must demonstrate respect for each other by sharing important ideals that govern healthy relations. Shared governance has the potential of improving nursing outcomes because it leads to better decision-making, improved retention, and job
