- The University’s strategy for reduction in energy consumption focuses on communication to provide awareness and education to all stakeholders to influence behaviour and reduce the requirement for energy usages. Workshops and awareness seminars will regularly be given to enculture eco- friendly energy consumption. - Real-time monitoring and analysis of energy data must be carried out to provide information to all stakeholders and encourage them to be involved and participate in the energy management program. ENERGY EFFICIENCY - This requires investment in energy-related infrastructure and can be achieved through a continuous review of new technologies and efficient practices of energy management system. - The energy management system must ensure that the requirements for personnel and system safety and reliability should comply with the requirements of existing codes and laws. NEW BUILDS - All new builds will be designed to be energy efficient and employ the use of the green rating models such as the GreenPASS/GreenRE/GBI to minimise carbon footprints and environmental impacts. - MS 1525:2014 can be used as a guideline. - Jabatan Pembangunan dan Penyelenggaraan (JPP) UMS shall be responsible for ensuring that each new build meets the green rating model ratings. TRAINING AND INFORMATION - The University shall provide training and information related to carbon reduction commitments and energy conservation to the campus community at all levels to effectively create more extensive participation and contribution to the energy management objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESOURCES - Sustainable Energy Management Committee (SEMC) will be headed by the VC of UMS or appointed representative, and comprise of Director of JPP, UMS Eco Campus Energy and Climate Change representatives, UMS Human Resource representatives, and JFPIU Energy Managers. - The committee will be responsible for developing and implementing energy policy for UMS. - The committee will be supported with adequate audit equipment and financial allocation to ensure an optimum operation, strengthened by experienced and trained personnel. REPORT AND MONITORING OF ENERGY DATA - University will utilise online/automated meter reading, building management systems and systems-link energy management software (smart building implementation) to monitor the energy consumption of buildings and zones around the campus.
