Performance-Enhancing Drugs
Imagine that you’re one of an elite group of students fighting for a spot at the top of your class.
You’re fully
aware of the implications of an upcoming exam.
If you blow it, you lose your rank.
However, a good grade
virtually assures you of prestige and a comfortable job.
So you look for that extra edge – a little something to push your already strained mind further.
If there was a
pill that would increase your mental sharpness for a short period of time and ensure you a high score, chances
are many of you would consider taking it.
Amateur and professional athletes are faced with a similar dilemma every day of their competitive lives.
In the
never-ending search for the extra edge in sports, many athletes have given in to the lure of performance
enhancing drugs.
PREVIEW STATEMENT
Today I will be talking with you about the types of performance enhancing drugs used by athletes, side effects
and dangers of these drugs and what the sports industry is doing to combat their use.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, no matter how safe you think taking these drugs will be, the risk will always outweigh the edge
given to the athlete. The risk to their health and their athletic career isn’t worth a temporary competitive edge.
The best bet in life is to just work hard and do your best.

Chemical and electrical impulses start flowing rapidly
through your body.

Your body temperature rises by half a degree.
Your pulse and blood pressure increase.
Your arteries and chest
muscles contract, your vocal chords quiver, and your face contorts.

Your lower
jaw suddenly becomes uncontrollable and breath bursts from your mouth at 70 miles an hour.
This is surely no laughing matter.
Or is it?
This is a medical description of what happens in your body
during a
burst of laughter.
It sounds dreadful, but we all know it feels great.
PREVIEW STATEMENT
