Pamara Producers Cooperative of Organic Banana Growers (Papcobagrow) have joined forces to meet the demand of the Japanese market for organic bananas. Both cooperatives partnered with Farmcoop, a non-government organization that provides technical assistance and market linkage for agrarian reform beneficiaries, small-scale farmers and indigenous peoples. Mary Ann V. Fuertes, executive director of Interface Development Interventions, Inc., said there is also a growing awareness and demand for organic food in the city today. She said small organic farmers are trying to meet the demand despite difficulties due to the lack of a regular organic trading post. Produce of small farmers compete with the organic produce of larger companies that are on display at various supermarkets in the city. However, the branded organic products are more expensive than those produced by small farmers. source: - ops-grow-organic-bananas-for-export&id=78724 III. Conclusion and Recommendation a.
