What is your understanding of a Writer's motivation in asserting a claim? Writer motivation to asserting a claim is to mean to justify and support their beliefs with evidence. This allows reader to understand what is to be said in the writing. Therefore when a writer makes a claim it give readers a reason to read further. So writers want to make a strong claim causing the readers to be intrigue. Thus, I think that a good enough motivation to assert a claim. 4. What does it mean to "join a conversation" or "enter a conversation? To join a conversation mean to be an active listening and actively engaged. To join a conversation you first have to understand the topic and be interested in the conversation. You must be either informed or curious about the conversation to be able to join. If that’s the case you can join the conversation because you have input or questions. Thus, joining a conversation mean that the topic spikes you interest. 5. Write an analysis paragraph (5-7 sentences) that identifies the main claim of the essay by David Tyak that begins on p. 42, "Whither History Textbooks." You can use the second paragraph on p. 37 as a model or example, as it identifies the main claim of the Hirsch essay within the chapter reading. David Tyak main purpose is to address the issue of American textbooks and the converses with them. He begin his essay with stating the importance of textbooks in the American school system. As he continues he give examples of issues with the history textbooks. He even goes as far to get teachers opinion on textbooks.
