Teachers Unions 5 Teachers unions and competitiveness of teacher pay The competition based on teachers’ pay impacts the quality of teaching staff. Teachers unions promote competition, which is significant as it ensures only those with the necessary qualification enter the teaching workforce. Teachers' unions ensure high wage rates, thus increasing the number of students studying to be teachers in colleges, which ensures that schools benefit from qualified teachers who provide quality education to students. What is the relation between Teachers union strength with the national assessment on educational progress achievement levels? Teachers' unions don't promote school achievement. While comparing the national assessment of educational progress achievement of schools with unions and those without unions, achievement gaps exist in both. Teachers' unions, therefore, don't relate to performance as schools with strong associations can show either high or low NAEP scores. Though unionized schools have adequate funds which schools can use to provide essential educational resources, the teachers may not be qualified to provide quality education, or the classrooms may be too large for students to learn well. Pros of teachers unions Various advantages show that teachers' unions are goods for schools like process or job protection, protection from political changes, unification, and better performance, the voice on policy, tax-deductible fees, and finally, tenure possibility. Unions ensure that their member’s job has process protection meaning that teachers cannot be fired by district or government officials or the school administrators. Teachers' unions provide process protection by ensuring that problems that arise in schools undergo proper review then resolved before reaching a point

The union’s charges membership fee, which is tax-deductible from the teacher’s salary. Teachers' unions bring parents, teachers, and administrators together who come up with ideas and resources to better education. Protection from political changes is another advantage. In the United States, a new political party comes up with new policies and sees education different thus; the teachers union counters the perspectives by protecting working environments and salaries. The most significant advantage which makes teachers union suitable for schools is that they improve performance. Research has shown that unionized schools perform better when compared to nonunionized schools (Matsudaira, & Patterson, 2017). Cons of a teachers union Apart from these advantages, teachers' unions have some disadvantages, namely reduction of educational opportunities to children, bad contracts, protect bad teachers, fund non- educational needs, and change the learning process. Unions use strikes to fight for the rights of teachers, which reduces and threatens children’s educational opportunities. The unions also lock districts with bad contracts preventing bad teachers from been fired from the job. The agreements
