monsoons, and extreme droughts. (Rosset) Through the use of GMO’s, scientists have the ability to engineer seeds that can grow in the most extreme weather conditions such as in dry lands or in freezing cold temperatures. It would allow developing nations to grow crops on land that they never thought they could utilize for farming. The use of GMOs would theoretically increase the supply of available food, and therefore help end world hunger. Therefore, many people view the use of GMOs as the answer to help the food crisis. However, much controversy surrounds the use of genetically modified crops. Even though using GMOs may provide a short-term answer to the global food crisis, GMOs also present many potential ecological consequences through its continued use. According to the reading by Shiva, instead of promoting biodiversity, “the tools of genetic engineering are designed to steal nature’s harvest by destroying biodiversity, increasing the use of herbicides and pesticides, and spreading the risk of irreversibly genetic pollution. (Shiva) The use of GMOs face many questions and critics from society. One of the main
