situations giving me the confidence that I have had personal growth and adapted to my new positioning in my career journey. The learning outcomes in my PDP are interdependent of each other, with my PDP a learning journey rather than individual learning targets; for example being able to pull out key points or issues is an important skill of a good networker.Although I have created a goal for myself, there are external factors that will also impact on my desired and actual achievements, which are unpredictable. For this reason the PDP – and my career journey – need to be flexible, developing as I do and not static documents. I am also conscious that having a clear goal, and a clear journey to get to that goal, may have negative implications. Unexpected pressures, from work colleagues, family and friends, may drive me towards an upwards career journey – if I do not want to improve my earning capability why am I undertaking an MSc for example. I may face pressures from myself, and moments of doubt, such as feeling I am already at the top of my career, there is no point in spending time and energy developing myself just to stay where I am. It is possible I will feel resentful for the sacrifices I made now when my family are older and more independent. To dispel some of these possible negatives I have included two personal development goals in my PDP. These were not flippantly included, but there for three reasons; as a reminder that my personal life is as important as my work life and I could also be better at it; so I have creative goals to aim towards if I do not move on in my work career; and to keep me still striving towards giving time to myself when my family are not as reliant on me as they are now.In conclusion my PDP is aimed at making me more employable and marketable so that I can become the Director of Operations by September 2016. This will not increase my earning power, but I will be in a position where I can be more flexible with my working day in a job Ifind both challenging and creative. My personal life is as important to me as my career and my PDP, with regards to learning activities; timeframes and outcomes reflects this. I am12conscious that I have written my PDP in a time of uncertainty, with regards to the general economy, the organisation I work for and – to some extent – my personal life; however I do believe it is better to have a plan and need to change it as work and life evolves than not to plan at all. With all this in mind my next steps are to complete my MSc by 1st September XXX and sew two items of clothes ready for when my daughter is born at the end of February XXX; and above all enjoy the journey to my goals as much as the goals themselves. The full PDP can be found in Appendix B.
