- Cromwell influenced Henry to marry Anne of Cleves (1515-1557), from a protestant German state. When Anne arrived in England Henry VIII was very disappointed. She spoke no language that Henry spoke. He also found her repulsive. And Henry refused to have anything to do with her. An annulment was hastily arranged which was easy to obtain b/c the marriage was never consummated. - Cromwell was blamed for this and arrested and executed. - Catherine Howard (1521-1542) was the niece of the Duke of Norfolk. She was 19 or 20 when she met the King. Catherine and Henry married two weeks after Cromwell’s execution. Catherine was the pawn of the conservative group at court. Henry liked her b/c she was “frisky.” So much that her interest in her husband dwindled and her eye began to wonder. At this stage Henry is well into middle age. She had several adulterous affairs right under Henry’s nose. Of course she was found out and Thomas Cramner told the king of his Queen’s treason. - Feb 1542 Catherine Howard and four of her lovers were executed. - He married again for the sixth time to Catherine Parr (1512-1548) was his favorite wife. Henry was beginning to feel age and Catherine was almost his nurse/wife. She was particularly good at dealing with Henry, talking to him and advising him. She was a subtle and effective supporter of religious reform. She did a lot for Cramner and Protestants through patronage and support. This anger the conservatives at court. Henry plotted against the conservatives and Catherine helped put them in their place.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
