Use the following information for the next 5 questions (until you see a solid line): Alligators lay their eggs inside nests composed of mounds of rotting vegetation. The sex of their offspring is determined by the temperature that the eggs experience during incubation. Females can influence the sex ratio of their offspring by the height of fermenting vegetation they use to bury their eggs, with higher mounds of vegetation producing hotter incubation temperatures and more females. You can assume that the behavior “stacking fermenting vegetation on the nest” is an instinctive phenotype that can be influenced by genetic variation in the alligator population. You also can assume that nest construction is controlled by three alleles segregating in the gene pool and that each allele causes the alligators to stop nest construction at a different mound size (e.g., height) and thereby incubate their eggs at different nest temperatures: mutation-A at 31º C, mutation-B at 32º C, and mutation-C at 33ºC.
