be the best solution in that moment. Skill allows a leader to exude confidence. You cannot have one without the other. Having the ability to solve problems and resolve issues in addition to have people willingly follow you takes skill. These aspects of Wooden’s Success Pyramid have attributed to every facet of my leadership abilities and style. Analyze John Wooden’s Pyramid of Success and identify the aspects with which you agree and disagree. Provide a rationale for each aspect. The aspects of Wooden’s Pyramid that I agree with are confidence and poise, and those I disagree with are friendship and loyalty. Confidence and poise are attributes that every leader, in my opinion, should possess. “In hard or uncertain times, of which there are many, employees want to be guided by a leader who projects confidence. WOODEN ON LEADERSHIP 4 its close first cousins, resilience and optimism” (Lipman, 2017). This goes hand in hand with poise. Even if a leader is under great pressure or scrutiny, it is important not to show one’s emotions on the surface. Friendship and loyalty are not necessary for one to be a great leader or successful. There are many Mangers and leaders that are the heads of companies and do not have one friend at their establishment. That is not to say one cannot be friendly, but it can be detrimental to befriend subordinates or staff members. When a friendship is established it can sometimes blur the lines of authority. It is important to network and maintain relationships to become successful but it is not necessary to befriend everyone in a corporate on business setting. Loyalty may be viewed as a detrimental attribute in the arena of success. It may even be seen as foolish to be loyal to a certain company, brand, or person. It can be bad for you when trying to stick with a company when it is no longer in your best interest. Individuals under your direction can be loyal to a fault, so that they don’t mention the problems or inaccuracies with your ideas or statements (HBS Working Knowledge, 2016). When it comes to loyalty, there is no real place for it in business and management. Loyalty suggests that opinions are not challenged and thoughts go unquestioned. That is not a quality in which I would associate my leadership style or character.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
