Bargaining is the third phase, it is the phase of internal bargaining and negotiation. With promises to change who they are and what they do in order to recover. Fourth is depression where an individual is rising from the certainty of death, and the resignation that there is no hope. The final stage of mourning is acceptance where the bereaved gets better. The reality of the loss is much more understood and accepted. The bereaved can still feel sadness, but has regained full functioning and has also reorganized life adjusting to outrage due to the loss. Guilt can be installed in some cases. Earlier in the 20th century Social Death Theory suggests there is a mutual withdrawing of older people and the society. And the Disengagement Theory suggests that as older people prepare for their own deaths, they become preoccupied with themselves and with thoughts of the past and withdraw from social activity. The word bereave means to be deprived of a loved one through a profound absence, especially due to a loved one's death.When an individual dies, the bereaved families and friends must cope and adjust to their lives in order to live without the deceased individual. There are three different phases that occur over several years. The First phase is the Shock Phase. The bereaved family and friends experience periods/phases of numbness and crying.
