The next question I asked Ilya was, “Do you engage in any disordered eating behaviors?” I got a little chuckle out of him when I asked that. He said sometimes on the weekend he will binge eat a ton of unhealthy things like chips and cookies. He says it is a reward for living a healthy lifestyle throughout the weekdays. Eating healthy for five days in a row, then a little badly for two days isn’t thatunhealthy of a lifestyle. He lives his life in moderation, so he doesn’t drift into a predominately unhealthy lifestyle.The second thing he added onto his eating habits is fasting for a couple of days in an attempt to lose weight. He would eat whatever he wanted from eight in the morning to eight at night, then fast for the next twelve hours. He initially tried out this “fasting diet” because a lot of his fellow class mates were doing it. As he progressed through undergrad, he then found out it actually isn’t a good thing to do. He learned in his exercise physiology class that if your body is in a state of starvation, your primary source of fuel turns to protein instead of carbohydrates. He quickly ended that “fasting diet”because it was hindering his ability to add muscle mass. After finding out this information he quickly moved on to meal prep.
